PROBLEM

The military can be overwhelming to civilian therapists. While they undergo extensive training specific to their position, a need was identified to give them a more general introduction to military culture.

SOLUTION

An interactive video course was an excellent opportunity to for a branching scenario. There weren’t a bunch of hard facts for the learner to master– the goal was for the learner to learn cultural awareness, and nothing does that job better than an immersive story. I used storytelling principles to create a relatable protagonist, Nick, and gave him the classic, tried-and-true “fish out of water” tale. There was a huge learning curve for me as well as Nick– military culture is complex! I had to work very closely with SMEs to develop the storyline.
